Background
The West Essex Philatelic Society (WEPS) was incorporated under the laws of the State of New Jersey on November 5, 1930, with its first meeting held that date and attended by twelve members.
As set forth in its incorporation papers, the Society was founded for the purpose of assisting its members in acquiring philatelic knowledge and to promote and perpetuate knowledge of philately in general. It is also expressly stated in these papers that the Society shall cultivate a feeling of friendship and common interest among its members.
During the past 92 years, the Society has been continuing to carry out these aims fully. It is widely known as one of the most prestigious philatelic organizations in the East. A very wide range of philatelic interests and "specialties" are represented by members as are professional and occupational background, age and gender.
